Nico: What made you want to be a teacher?
Mr Young: Good question! The short answer is “because it’s fun”.
Nico: What is your fave band?
Mr Young: Funkadelic would be on my desert island discs, as would the Isley Brothers, Patti Jo and the like. Anything Gilles Peterson or Norman Jay is a safe bet. Most fun? A little band that played in the early nineties in Bristol …
Nico:What is your fave book?
Mr Young: Blimey – there are loads! When I was at school I used to like detective stories like The Three Investigators and pretty much anything science fiction. Flashman’s always a good bet, I suppose. I don’t know, Nico, it’s hard to say. I try to vary what I read so it’s not all just thrillers, or all just non-fiction. The sorts of things I’ve been reading recently are all here if you’re interested.
Nico: What is your fave footy team?
Either Arsenal or one of the five-a-side teams the old men here play on. You’d be surprised how graceful some of us are on the ball. Really very surprised.

Wow! Great article! It’s really good to get inside a teacher’s head, in fact anyone’s head and find out their interests and such as it gets you to know them better and for teachers it allows you to understand why they teach. Mr.Young you’ve been reading quite a lot of books recently!

@Alexandra – because I used to live up in Highbury, near the Arsenal ground. I’m not sure support is quite the right word – if I’m watching a game I’ll root for them, but I don’t lose too much sleep if they lose. Unlike Mr Horan and his beloved Everton…
