Although it says I’m the author, this was written by all the rest of the U10 Cornwall touring rugby team too!

We were all very excited that we were going on a rugby tour to Cornwall and we could not wait for the time to come – we were virtually counting down the days! On Friday morning we had to get up pretty early because we had to meet at the lower school at 7.30am. When I arrived all the kids that were there started cheering at me. Hardly anyone had slept because of the excitement. After taking the tube from Putney Bridge we boarded a train at Paddington heading for Cornwall. We had a healthy lunch on board and after five hours we finally arrived in Truro where we were playing our first match against Polwhele School.

We made a good start to the match, dominating the scrums and lineouts and playing good running rugby. The final score was 25-5 to us! The local team kindly hosted us for tea and offered us a Cornish pasty. Some of our boys asked what a pasty was and the Polwhele boys went mad! Mr Bright only took three bites to finish his pasty! We then traveled to the house where we were staying, ‘Shellseekers’ in Constantine Bay. After this it was over the road to the Trevose Golf Club where we had a great dinner – spirits were high in the camp!

On Saturday we got up at 7.00am and started to get ready for the exciting day ahead of us. During our breakfast you could feel that today would be a good day for us. Soon after breakfast we proceeded to watch six of England’s best games ever to provide inspiration for the upcoming match. The video seemed to fly by and before we all knew were on the bus making our way to Truro Prep School. Truro’s grounds were amazing. They had football fields, cricket pitches and rugby fields. We had quite a long warm up practicing lineout codes, back moves and scrums. The game itself was extremely intense with us taking the lead early in the game through a Jono G try. But it was in the second half that we really pulled away from them. Jono proudly converted every try to make the final score 28-0.

We made lots of new friends at Truro. For lunch they also gave us a Cornish pasty. After the match we drove back to Shellseekers and walked down to the beach for some touch rugby. At 3.30pm we made our way to the Trevose Golf Club for a golf lesson from Gary, the professional at Trevose. After the lesson we had a competition to see who could hit it closest to the flag. Then it was back to the house to shower up and head back to the golf club for dinner. It has been a huge day and lights were out by 8.00pm.

On Sunday we were back up at 7.00am, we had breakfast, tidied the house and were off to Wadebridge to play our third game against the Wadebridge Camels Rugby Club. It was a tough game that became more competitive as it went on. All of the team played really well and we ended up winning 20-0. After the game we went in to the clubhouse for a hotdog and we presented a small shield to the Wadebridge Captain. Then it was off to the station where we said goodbye to Brian the bus driver, Ethan bought us a hot chocolate and we hopped on the train back to London.

The tour was a great success and we had a brilliant time. We would like to thank Polwhele School, Truro Prep and the Wadebridge Camels for hosting us, the Thompson family for letting us stay in their house in Constantine Bay, the parents for coming to support us and Mr Bright and Mr Foggo for looking after us.
